“Give ’em the old razzle dazzle,
Razzle Dazzle ’em.
Give ’em an act with lots of flash in it.
And the reaction will be passionate.”
When I first started playing roller derby six years ago, the game incorporated a lot of showmanship – fishnets, tutus, elaborate make up and wild derby names were the norm.
Today, most skaters take the sport more seriously. We’ve toned down the outfits and makeup and some skaters have even dropped their derby names and skate under their legal names only.
I’ve been one of those skaters that misses the dramatics of it. So this weekend, I asked Amandamazing to paint my face for my home game. She’s a seriously talented artist located in the Calgary, Alberta region, and she transformed me into something fierce.
Awesome, right? The crowd loved it, and so did I!
